Ethics: Principles and Fundamentals for Human Services (2 CE Hours)

This program discusses the fundamental ethical issues and dilemmas practitioners face in the field. We will discuss the ethical codes that apply to working with behavioral and mental health clients. Also, we will evaluate scenarios that allow participants to explore the grey areas and the ethical decision-making procedures.

Commonly occurring challenges will be reviewed and participants will better understand effective ways to handle these situations.

Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment: Evidence-based (4 CE Hours)

This 4-hour session which provides instruction to staff who work with substance using and abusing clients. The program is in 2 parts with Part-1 examining the pharmacology of substances and alcohol and how they affect humans. Part-2 then take a look at evidence-based methods practitioners must apply to achieve desired outcomes. The program also looks at co-occurring disorders and how they serve to further complicate work with clients.

Writing Stage-matched Service and Treatment Plans (2 CE Hours)

This program increases the skills of practitioners in applying strength-based, recovery-oriented treatment in both their work with clients and in their documentation. The training will give clarity to what is a deficit-based versus a strength-based approach as well as greatly increase individual practitioner skills for writing collaborative, recovery-oriented treatment plans that actually reflect the activities of the individual and the assistive counselor (team).

Suicides: Strength-centered Approaches for Detection & Prevention (2 CE Hours)

Program Summary

How can you tell someone is suicidal? When you do what are appropriate steps to take to prevent it? This is a two hour program to assist counselors (including substance abuse counselors) build skills for suicide prevention.

Program Goals and Learning Outcomes

The participant will be helped to understand the pattern of suicidal risk in various demographic characteristics, including exacerbations for elderly, adolescents, people with substance use disorders, etc. The level of lethal risk for various types of suicidal behaviors will also be discussed.

Finally, the participant will be provided with guidelines and strategies for managing suicidal situations for reducing and preventing suicide.
